Close your eyes and picture an engagement ring. There is a good chance what you saw was a solitaire: one stone, held up on its own, nothing else competing for the eye. It is the base silhouette almost every other style builds from, which is why solitaire settings turn up double-tagged with split shanks, twists and hidden halos across this site. The stone does the talking. The setting's whole job is to stay out of the way.

Nearly every solitaire here is a setting, so the center stone is your decision, made with us, natural or lab grown, once you have chosen the design. A small number come complete with the stone already set, and those are marked. There is something almost stubborn about a good solitaire setting: it does not need a halo or a row of side stones to make its point.

What is a solitaire engagement ring?

Do I choose the diamond separately with a solitaire setting?
