The Top 5 Engagement Ring Trends in 2023

The biggest, the most illustrious jewelry event of the year was last week in beautiful Las Vegas. After three long years, we were finally able to attend the Luxury & Couture jewelry shows and they did not disappoint. In real life we were able to explore all the top engagement ring trends & even more of these fabulous pieces are on order (we’ll debut them on social media as soon as they arrive in store). But in the meantime, we want to share with you the five top engagement ring trends for 2023. More than likely these stunning designs will spill over into 2024 so bookmark this blog for reference later if you feel like a 2024 engagement is in the cards (a little Vegas pun wink wink). Enjoy!

Engagement Ring Styles

  1. East-West

East-West engagement ring styles are when the elongated center stone (or gemstone) is set across the finger, rather than with the finger. Pear shaped diamonds, oval cut diamonds, emerald or radiant cut & marquise make excellent candidates for a east-west settings.

Tacori tradition shines in this engagement ring featuring an east-west set oval diamond on a yellow gold band.

While not a new trend, we expect to see this unique setting gain more momentum in 2023, given the emphasis on individuality in the wedding space. East-west diamond engagement rings make for a playful but still endlessly elegant solitaire. We love how these designs have chic heirloom futures.

Pro tip: if you are considering an east-west engagement ring, be sure to try on many variations of this style & sleep on it. You want to be sure you truly love this trend & know you will love it long past the popularity.

  1. Vintage Style

If your personal style leans toward the romantic, a vintage engagement ring style may be your perfect engagement ring. With so many little eye-catching details to showcase the unique personality of the wearer, vintage inspired ring settings have unlimited versatility. Consider a ring with filigree, milgrain, hidden halo, baguettes or art deco inspired design elements to make it your own.

Pro tip: wedding band shopping should begin with engagement ring shopping! Due to the design elements in vintage-style rings, you’ll want to try on wedding bands at the same time to be sure you love those unique details with another ring alongside.
  1. Minimalist

Minimalist fever has captured our hearts in 2023. They are leading the popular choice as we imagine they will for quite a while yet. This solitaire style is a favourite for its versatility in choosing a diamond shape that reflects your personal style. Oval engagement rings have been a top contender in recent years. Emerald cut diamonds are making a stong statement in 2023, which more than a few requests for asscher cut diamonds (a square version of the emerald cut).

Pro tip: If you are debating diamond shapes, be sure to reference our blog “What is the best diamond shape for an engagement ring?” where we delve into some of the pros and cons of each shape.

  1. Gemstones

Color. Is. Hot.

Colored gemstones were all over Luxury & Couture jewelry shows. Though diamonds will forever be an engagement ring staple, many couples are veering from tradition and opting for pieces that feature colored gemstones. One of the main appeals is that each gem will have its own distinctive character. No two colored gemstones are alike so they have the unique ability to create meaningful, personal engagement rings. The capacity for the personality of the wearer to shine through is undeniable.

Pro tip: if you are considering a gemstone for your engagement ring, be sure to thoughtfully consider your lifestyle, the individual gem & discuss at length with your local jeweler. Some gems are not recommended for daily wear due to their softness.

  1. Lab Grown Diamonds

Lab grown diamonds have been steadily gaining popularity as a cost effective option with presumed sustainability features. If you are weighing the pros and cons of natural vs. lab grown diamonds, at Perrara, we encourage the discussion. Our goal is to help you make an informed decision and we are happy to share the knowledge we have on the subject. While our inventory of lab grown diamonds is extensive it is rapidly changing due to the demand. We are happy to shop for whatever diamond shape, carat, clarity & color you desire.
